The global automotive piston market size is projected to grow to USD 2.2 billion by 2025 from USD 1.9 billion in 2020, at a CAGR of 3.5%. The shift towards direct gasoline engines (GDI) will lead to demand for gasoline pistons in the coming years. Owing to emission regulation limits, light-weighting is one of the strategies adopted by OEMs to meet the norms. Engine downsizing is one such light-weighting trend widely accepted over the globe. The advantage offered by the flat-top piston is their less surface area, which allows the flame front to disperse evenly make it more applicable for gasoline engines. Flat-top pistons are simple in design, which reduces the manufacturing cost. Also, the high compression ratio offered by these pistons makes them more suitable for mass-produced engines. All these factors result in a larger share of the flat-top piston segment, and this trend is expected to continue during the forecast period.
