Air pollution control through biotrickling filter

Conventionally Biofilter and Biotrickling Filter (BTF) are utilized as standard mode of process configuration. Bio Trickling filter, known as BTF is based on much simple operational principle. In the BTF, micro organisms responsible for the biodegradation of the target pollutants are immobilized on special inert material or packing which provides surface area and favorable environment for the growth of micro organisms on it. Polluted air is passed from the bottom which then comes in contact with the micro organisms causing biochemical removal of the pollutants. The bed of inert material is trickled with water from top which provides nutrients for the optimal growth of the micro organism and also carries out the by products of the biochemical oxidation from the filter bed keeping the filter bed functioning well for continuous biodegradation.
